regatta gala

The act of forming and playing out an elaborate lie as a means of seeming "hard to get" when dating

Taken from the sitcom "Friends," when character Rachel is trying to make her neighbor ask her out by acting hard to get and pretending she can't attend his party because she is going a regatta gala instead.

Friend: So wait, you told him you couldn't hang out because you were entertaining a friend from out of town who is visiting you in the city?

Me: Yeah, but now he is suggesting all these places that makes sense for us to go and I think he wants to meet us there, isn't that great? He's totally into me now! But do you think you could pretend to be from out of town?

Friend: This is ridiculous, why do you need to regatta gala this guy! If he's into you, just tell him the truth!

Me: Omg, you're right! He's totally getting regatta gala-ed! Don't wear something hot, okay?

Battlestar Galactica

The best fraking show ever! About a group of humans who have fled their home worlds due to destruction from group of sentient robots( aka Cylons) they then engage in a search for a new plant (Earth) then, temporarily forget about the planet due to the discovery of Cylons living within the fleet, and eventually end the story by finding out interesting things about some main character's species. Throughout the coarse of the show there is a lot of chaos, killing off main characters, sex, running out of supplies and Bob Dylan songs. Much better than it sounds.... However, the ending is highly disappointing, so after season 2.5, just stop watching and make up your own ending. The show has a prestory that is now airing on syfy called Caprica.

Sara: Hey, did you watch BSG like I told you to?
Jess: Yeah...
Sara:Didn't you frakn' LOVE IT?
Jess: Um...
Sara: Oh... Next time watch the 2003 remake.
The original Battlestar Galactica is NOT what I'm talking about, people!

Gala Rape

An occurrence similar to date rape yet different in regards to the location it takes place in: a gala. Often associated with the wealthy and those of higher class. Not necessarily restricted to galas. Sometimes occurs in other high class functions.
