Acronym for Standard Wire Gauge, which is used in Britain (not to be confused with AWG, which is American Wire Gauge). Despite what most people believe, the relationship between the SWG and diameter is inversely related. In otherwords, the higher the gauge number, the smaller the diameter becomes.

When you go to radioshack, you will more likely get assistance if you ask for a 30 SWG wire compared to asking for a wire with a .3150 mm diameter.
