Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio was the first to describe the back of the worm; during a show in Amsterdam in 1997, in the middle of a creepy, ambient jam called Wormtown, Anastasio described to the audience his experience of being sucked into a public urinal and riding around on the back of giant worms. Very few others have been lucky enough to experience The Back of the Worm, but most of the people who have did so at Phish concerts.

The Back End is a mythical place in the United States Navy. It has been said that if you and your shipmates are able to achieve an impossible amount of maintenance/work you will be transported to The Back End and it is only here that you will then be “Hooked Up”. However it should be said that no person in the Navy has ever seen this place or knows of its whereabouts, even though all have achieved the impossible task required to be taken to this magical land!!!
