frat punk

An adjective used to describe a fraternity brother who constantly talks about played out punk/emo/indie music while sporting "yellowcard", "brand new" or "taking back sunday" t-shirt or hoodies. Designer brands include Hurley and Volcom bought exclusively at their local Pacific Sunwear. Usually of an upper middle class upbringing the frat punk will typically have over 400 friends on the facebook due to their overexposure that the Greek scene provides. Will explain in great detail the game of 100 cup they played the other night and how "sick" it was.

punk

I'm not a punk, but i do listen to punk rock. All the guys at school say i'm punk because I wear black t-shirts and have black hair, and i could give a fuck less what anybody says. But i'm not punk. And i am not trying to be punk, either. i listen to heavy metal more then my punk rock CDs. Punk is a lifestyle and a type of music. People who are constantly picking on us kids who wear black or look different, including punks, emos, goths, rockers and the like, i belive they are ignorant. Yeah, we hate rap, but you guys claim you all never diss metal or punk. that's bullshit. I challenge every rap fan who reads this to go listen to a Slipknot or Godsmack song, or maybe some Global Threat or the Casulties. If you cringe and bitch though it, then you would understand what we go through when we hear rap, hip hop etc. All i'm trying to say is, Everybody's different. i'm never gonna get along with the cheerleader who sits beside me in 3rd block, and she's never going to go to prom with a guy with eyeliner on, or with a mohawk. It's just how it is. I diss rap, I make fun of it, but you know, who really cares? Go ahead, call me a headbangin' moshing freak, I don't care. Punk is a lifestyle, Hip-Hop is a lifestyle, and Heavy metal, Goth are lifestyles too, and they are not going away anytime soon, so shutr the hell up get used to it.

punk rock

A genre of music that is less about the music and more about the message behind it. Very crashing, angry and emotional. These are the concerts with the mosh pits, girls and boys. These are the concerts where everything you've been pissed off about, from the bully at school to that last fight with Mummy & Daddy to the rape you don't tell anyone about comes to the surface. This is the genre where you can scream and hit and swear and nobody will ever question you. Whenever I listen to punk, it's like release in the purest form. That's the real stuff.

Punk rockers arn't all the stereotypical coloured-hair and various facial piercings. I've met punks who look like Susie Sunshine. And punk was not ruined, it was corrupted by a bunch of morons who were desperate for a quick buck. You can still find the real deal though. You just have to know where to look.

Flower Punk

A Frank Zappa send up of the phoniness of the 60's "peace movement" and Time Warner hippies.

Constructed using blindingly sped up guitars and drums to replicate the hardcore speed freaks and other trippers, the song is designed to show how vapid the flower/peace movement really was.

The song was structured similar to Hendrix's "Hey Joe" who Frank admired and jammed with (Hendrix is featured on the cover of the album You're only in it for the Money in which Flower Punk is recorded). The call and response "hey punk..." is answered just like Hey Joe, a Billy Taylor song.

This is one of few Zappa songs not to have cover versions on the internet due to the fact this was mostly a studio/audio creation exemplifying Zappa's use of technology, not quite music concrete but a great example of Dada.

punk rock

Contrary to what alot of people think about punk rock, it isn't a completely individualistic musical movement with no rules or boundries. If this were true, than pretty much anything could be punk rock, so long as the musicians intent was not adhere to any rules while composing the music. This would mean that classical, folk, new wave, pop, heavy metal, or any combination of the above, or a completely new genre of music never heard of before could all be punk. Bands such as mr bungle or fantomas who incorporate many genres into their music, and seem to never have two songs that sound the same should than be considered more punk than the ramones or the sex pistols, since they conform to no previous musical standards. The truth is that Punks tend to be very rigid about what they consider to be punk or not, more rigid than alot of people who listen to music other than punk. As soon as someone playing punk rock tries to incorporate some other genre into punk you'll here people say, "that's not punk, that's pop punk or new wave". Punk rock began, and is still considered today to be fast loud 3 chord rock and roll music characterized by either nihilistic lyrics about sex, drugs and violence, or some kind of anarcho-communist utopia. Some punks will say to you out of confusion that bands like avirl lavigne or simple plan aren't punk rock because they don't write their music or cause they are just playing music to conform to the rules of the masses, but who the hell are they to say that avril lavigne doesn't really believe what she's writing or playing is good, and she's just conforming to the masses. The fact is that Avril Lavigne will never be punk, not because she's dishonest, writing music just to make money and please people, but because she doesn't wanna have sex with a dog, drink whiskey by the gallon or shoot up heroin like dee dee ramone, iggy pop, sid vicious or captain sensible. Or Start some kind of anarchist or communist utopia like the clash, crass, dead kennedy's or bad brains. People get all caught up with the saying and doing whatever you want aspect of the music, but not enough on doing something that actually distinguishes you from the crowd, such as smoking crack, not brushing your teeth, living in a jungle, being an angry hippie ect.
