liberal

A liberal is a person who believes that every adult should be allowed the *liberty* (hence the name "liberal") to think and act as he or she wishes, except constrained for the sake of equal rights, equal opportunity, public health, and public safety as determined by due processes.

BACKGROUND
Before ~1870, liberals were suspicious towards *any* institution, e.g. the federal government, that had power to rob individuals of their liberty. After ~1870, liberalism was transformed by the rise of corporations and began to see government bodies as necessary counterbalances against corporate tyranny. However, liberals do not love big government.

Liberals do sympathize with and often support people who seem to lack equal rights or opportunity, including labor workers, women, immigrants, etc. Liberals usually support causes associated with individual liberty, e.g LGBTQ rights, same-sex marriages, and legalization of marijuana.

Liberals do not blindly support "tax and spend" policies or debt, but do consider implementing them when appropriate, and question if any measure is affordable or not. All liberals I know believe in law and order. Communism and socialism are tyrannical and therefore antithesis of liberalism.

I believe that conservatism should always be actively influential at all government levels. I am grateful for people who start businesses. foster its growth, and enjoy its rewards.
Matters like religious belief and environmentalism are independent of liberalism.

Liberal Christian

A person who religiously identifies as a Christian but dislikes creeds and religious exclusion in general, has Open Communion, embraces views of salvation that emphasize social and personal transformation as more important than some after-death status conferred by God onto the individual, views the social and moral teachings of Christ as integral to his role as Redeemer of the world, doubts or rejects Biblical inerrancy, is open to panentheistic, pantheistic, and deistic notions of God, and/or is generally allergic to anything that smacks of fundamentalism. Liberal Christians tend to be in mainline Protestant denominations. Liberal Christians are not necessarily liberal in politics, though many of them are. Listening to Christian rock music does not make one a liberal Christian.
The first liberal Christian whose liberal religion I respected was a highschool classmate of mine. We were talking about homosexuality, and she reminded me that among the many things forbidden in the New Testament is that vain and haughty aberration of braided hair on women (which you will find in 1 Timothy 2:9).

librarian

General term to describe a library worker. A librarian is traditionally one who collects, catalogs and makes materials (usually books) available for library patrons. Presently, due to the increased popularity of alternative "information sources" (primarily the Internet), one can sense an inferiority complex within the profession as a whole. Because of these feelings of inadequacy, librarians are facing a collective identity crisis, trying to redefine their place in light of the more sophisticated information world. A modern definition that all can agree on has yet to be found. In reality however, the librarian is a breed dying at the hand's of technological Darwinism. Most librarians will vehemently deny this truth, arguing that, basically, the general populace is lost and greatly inconvenienced without their help. Time will certainly show us otherwise.
