Emo doesn't mean a trend where people where tight pants, or listen to sad or depressing music. It also doesn't mean an angsty or up-tight person. It isn't a fad, it's a word.
Emo isn't a word to describe someone who cuts themselves, it's someone who is "EMOTIONAL". Doesn't mean that they are going to kill themselves or they are gay, it means they express their emotions outloud. It doesn't mean they walk around with their friends and call themselves emo. Those people aren't emo, they are trying to be part of the scene.

That boy just shared his emotions with me, and told me in a direct fashion, he can be considered emo. (Correct)
He cuts himself, he must be emo. (Incorrect)
He cuts himself, he must be depressed/trying to act cool.(scene)

Emo started off as a type of music, but not its stemmed into fake people who live on fake emotions and spend too much time on the computer, and MySpace.
They're attention seekers, and each one is a sheep, they each follow each others trend.
They claim to be unique, but all look the same.
(Like they have a dead cat on their head)
The boys are confused about their sexuality. (and sex, they're typically feminine)
And the girls look like prostitutes.
Whatever happened to guys looking masculine nowadays?
No-one understands why they get so depressed.
Most of the ones many people talk to have great things: like a widescreen TV, latest gaming console out, yet have an "excuse" for being depressed.
Emo's accuse us of not understanding them when they don't bloody tell us!
You ask them what's wrong, they say "oh, nothing" and insist on not telling us because they don't HAVE an excuse.
Funny thing is, in 10 years, they'll look back and think "what the bloody hell did I look like?!"
They complain they get bullied, but looking like that, how can you blame the bullies?
How these sad-acts can walk outside in public, I do not know.

Emo:
My online boyfriend didn't say "love you"
I'm so depressed, I'm quitting MSN.
Person with life:
Talk to you tomorrow, then.

People who usually think, "I suck. Life sucks. Time to cut my wrist," or something to that matter. They are usually cast away by society, and people look down upon them.

There is no pure definition for emo kid. Hard to believe? Well, take this from someone who has a heart and a mind.
Leave people who may fit this description the fuck alone. Not all people who "dress" or "look" like an emo is one. If we choose to look the way we do, that's just fine. Growing our hair out or wearing tight clothes, studs, stripes, scarves, what-the-fuck-ever doesn't mean we are trying to set a trend or be part of a group (UNLESS YOU ARE A POSER-WHICH CAN BE PICKED OUT VERY EASILY.) Our appearance is part of how we define ourselves and it's just based off of what we like.
We all encounter a source of pain in our lives, regardless of how terrible or abusive it may be, but that doesn't mean that the people who are hurting look emo or act emo.
Depression is not a joke and anyone is suseptible to it, even a bitchy little prep. All people have problems and make their own choices on how to deal with them.

I wear black, my hair is long and in my face, I can't leave the house without darkly lined eyes, my pants are deathly tight. How can you bill me for an emo kid when people in the 80's did the same thing? Does that make them emo as well?

an emotional punk! plain and simple not those 5 paragraph long things. its a punk that like rock music a lil more on the pop music side. emos usually cut there wrists, wear hair in front or their face, and wear tight clothes. A TRUE EMO DOES NOT CALL THEMESELVES EMO!!! ppl who call themselves emo are POSERS!!!!! not true emo. emo isnt a style that u gotta change urself to fit into its who ur TRUE personality that makes u emo, not how much money u spend at HOTTOPIC!!
