hippiecrite

A portmanteau of the words hippie and hypocrite, used to point out typically wealthy liberal elitist persons who preach traditional hippie values such as tolerance, environmental awareness, socialism/liberalism, personal freedom, pacifism, well-being and human empathy, but in practice do the opposite.

There are many hippiecrites in the world who drive their 8 cylinder Land Rovers through the Starbucks drive-thru, waiting in line for 10 minutes for their Soy Mocha Tall Grande Latte while releasing emissions into the ozone layer and wasting fuel unnecessarily reving their engines thinking it will speed up the process, and then ridicule the less fortunate Ford Escort in line in front of them because it occasionally puffs smoke from the tailpipe, and then stop at BK afterwards for a Double Whopper, wolfing half a pound of cow down while smoking a nice cigarette, and then yell a passing obscenity at the driver of an old pickup truck with a National Rifle Association Sticker on it for being a gun toting, psychopathic lunatic and would not even so much as bleed a penny for a good cause or a homeless person, and believe that everyone should live by their rules and be forced to eat only overpriced organic food and drive vehicles less than 5 years old.

Many trustafarians are actually hippiecrites, rich closeted conservative children who want to rebel against their parents who were hard working businesspeople who probably started with nothing and struggled to build a fortune while their brat kid pisses it away on drugs, booze, cars, hookers, and traveling.

hipster rock

noun; a sub genre of alternative rock characterized by obscure and semi obscure musicians popular on US college radio typically listened to by art students and the hipster scene.

Artists include Will Oldham, White Magic, Modest Mouse (before they sold out) and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Labels include Drag City and Kranky.

Travis: "Hey, we're heading to The Smell later, some new Sub Pop band is playing"

Elliot: Nah man, i'm done with that hipster rock. That scenes getting old man. I'm gonna hang back and listen to some Lord Finesse."

Hipster

"Hipster" refers to those who are adopting an exaggerated form of 'Indie' style purely for cultural acceptance, whereas the indie style consist of those who are genuinely just 'INDIEpendently' minded and it just happens to show through their image and outlook.

There needs to be a realization that 'Hipsters' and 'Indies' are two different cultures.

'Jack' likes a band called "Maps & Atlases", so he wears their T-shirts. Jack wears straight legged jeans because he doesn't like the way baggy jeans feel on him, and wears bigger glasses because he likes being able to see more. Jack genuinely thinks, listens to music, dresses, and acts outside of what is 'popular', because that is just who he is. Jack is an independent thinker, or "Indie"

'Nick' wears a "Maps & Atlases" shirt, straight legged jeans and bigger glasses because he saw it on Jack. Nick envy's people like Jack. Nick tries to copy their style of dressing so that he can feel more like Jack. Unfortunately, Nick can't realize that there IS NO style of 'independent thinkers', and that as a result of his trying to be 'indie', he has bastardized the entire culture. Nick is a hipster.

Hipster Express

The L train in the NYC subway system, between 14th street/8th ave and Halsey street... after Halsey street, it is just the L train, as a Hipster would never (currently, as of 2010) go past the Halsey stop.

We took the L train home late friday night, and it was the Hipster Express.
