To Hispanics in South, Central America it means a dark haired man; or someone of indigenous background.

A “moreno”; -dito as a word of endearment.

But, to Hispanics in the Caribbean such as Puerto Rico or the Dominican Republic it means a black man/brown man; sometimes but not limited to African American / Black American culture. It’s especially fitting for a darkskin man.
