Punk (subculture)

When it comes down to it, punks are just hippies with a tough guy facade :D
Punk (subculture)- "God them hippies have pretty much the same belief system as me- but man they look like a bunch of sissies... I know, I'll dress up really tough and create a new movement like the hippies, but without all the flower power 'all you need is love' crap" - and thats how it happened :P jk...

Second Wave Punk

Circa 1985 and after.

The second wave of punk rock encompasses the said music genre and sub-genres in the period from 1985 to present. A generation immediately following the first wave of punk which saw bands such as Black Flag, Circle Jerks, The Clash, Dead Kennedys, The Descendents, The Ramones and The Sex Pistols shape and reshape this unique form of rock music.

The second wave of punk rock music has seen arguably one of the toughest challanges the genre has had to face in its history. It was to be a period where punk rock and the values tied to it would slowly enter a decline as it, like so many other pure and raw forms of music, were to be raped by the mainstream. In an age where pop-culture, the general media and youth networks (see: MTV) have a disturbing degree of control of the minds the world's youth, the task for the punk rock scene to hold its original principles and values whilst continuing to thrive was always going to be a difficult task.

Nonetheless, despite the aggressive attempts by major music corporations and MTV to 'steal', rape and redifine punk rock as a money-making mainstream fad (see: Faux Punk)the resiliance of punk has shone through and the scene is holding its ground with countless talented underground bands continuing the "DIY" tradition and blasting out the tunes for punk aficionadoes everywhere.

Examples of bands exclusively from the second wave include:

NOFX, Pennywise, Propagandhi, 98 Mute, Pulley, Dropkick Murpheys, Face To Face, Millencolin (pre-2002), Bigwig, Lagwagon.

Examples of bands that are NOT second wave punk or, for that matter, punk at all. Bands bred by the corporates to take punk, rape it, redifine it, and use it for their own purposes (see: MTV, Faux Punk, Poser, Homosexual):

Green Day, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Sum 41, Busted, Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Blink 182.

punkcious

lmao 10x she is so funny! she's the best girl you'll ever meet: apart from hating "crap shit moles" like Lauren and Kali with a passion, people who are cruel to babies and hack her account, she is a very generous person who lets nobody down. A punkcious will very often write in lowercase characters and with very bad grammar, only to capitalise the first letter of her friends' names. Nobody is to mess with a punkcious: one quick, piercing stare from her, and you'll be running off in fear!
"How many dead babies does it take to paint a house? Depends how hard you throw them"
"ur so not funny u crap shit mole how could u be so cruel to babies"
"dude, you're such a punkcious!"

punk

Punk music is great and all, but that depends on yr opinion and stuff... So far as clothes, nobody could ever care less, and if they're the type who DO care so much what others go about wearing, and stereotype, they're not really worth considering, ever. Don't worry about them.

Punk.
will.
always live.
so long as
there is someone standing up and fighting for what
they believe.
It's a lifestyle. You don't take bullshit.

That's all there really is to it. No matter what you might stand for, if yr standing up strong, not budging and basically being annoyingly difficult to those who oppose you, you can be (at least a bit) punk. Believe it or not, there aren't a CRAPLOAD of peope like that, but they're there.
Actually, mohawks are pretty awesome. I suppose they're some landmark, and y'know, when you think bout it, not many people like 'em. Survive the stares, rude accusitions bout worshipping the devil, even retaliate.... every con that comes with that awesome 'do, keep it (not just for the couple months that it's a trend) and yr punk. Fuck those mohawk-hating moosefucks!
