mooching

In the UK mooching means going for a walk (usually looking for somewhere to eat) often while drunk and/or stoned.

In the US mooching is one person taking advantage of another.
(Two guys drunk in a tent in England)

John: "Where's Dave gone?"

Jack: "He went mooching off in that direction a couple of minutes ago"

(Two guys talking about friend's girlfriend in America)

John: "Dave's just bought his girlfriend a new car"

Pet-moocher

A person who visits their friends and relatives residences to spend time, love and play with their pets (mostly cats and dogs), to avoid the responsibility of maintaining, walking, feeding and caring for pets of your own; hence having the best of both worlds. It's not uncommon for a pet-moocher to suggest getting one or more pets, to their friends and family members, they often visit.
My friend is such a pet-moocher! He saw this cute little kitten at the kennel and suggested that I take it in! I already have ten cats, and he's never helped me change the kitty litter, once. Ha!
