Alternative pop band from Chicago, famous for doing really awesome music videos in their own homes. Ira Glass calls them "living catnip". Most famous recently for "the treadmill dance" that featured in the video for "Here It Goes Again". Check this band out on YouTube, the videos are amazing even if you dont like the music (which I happen to think is great too anyways)

go piss up a rope

It's like " go take a long walk on a short pier". It would be very hard to piss up a rope. It's also like telling someone to "fuck off" or "go get lost". A widely used term in the 50's and 60's by men who worked in factories together for extended periods of time.

Shakey was so mad at Ralph that he told him to "go piss up a rope". Ralph was so stupid that he actually obtained a large piece of rope and proceeded to urinate on it while it was held in a vertical position.

go home cook rice

Background: Cooking rice is a daily chore in households in Hawaii. This chore is often tasked to the children/teenagers of the family who usually got home from school before their parents and were instructed to cook the rice for dinner.

Hawaiian slang: This phrase has the equivalent effect of "go home!" or "go back to where you came from" in American speech. There are many equivalent uses: some used to express disdain, some used jokingly and some used to express relief from a hard day of work.

Ex. 1 - Mahina (at a football game): "Fuck the Huskies!! Go home cook rice!"

Ex. 2 - Leinani: "Don't even kno how fo' do simple division? Brah, you bettah just go home cook rice."

Ex. 3 - Kawika: "Ho braddah, dat one homework took so long. Finally pau. Time to go home cook rice."

When you "go bananas" you behave in a slightly crazy or silly fashion. The expression is considered slang and is therefore used only in informal contexts.

The children will go bananas when they see the cute little puppy.
