Pop: fads that are popular or mainstream, including music.
Punk: an movement of people and fads that go against what is popular and mainstream.
Pop-punk: stupid not-tallented bands like good charlotte and blink. they sound punky, but are corprate sell outs and therefore CANNOT by definition be punk at all. The entire point of punk is to be reafreshingly defferent from the mainstream of pop. So you can't mix them.

A term that many people misuse, as they confuse it with 'popular punk'. Pop punk is punk with poppy hooks, while popular punk is, as the name indicates, popular, and a very watered down version of punk.
Examples of pop punk (also known as skate punk):
NOFX
Lagwagon
Bad Religion
Pennywise
88 Fingers Louie
Anti-Flag
Rancid
Examples of popular punk:
blink 182
Yellowcard
Simple Plan
Good Charlotte

A big Oxymoron really its just an excuse for sad bands that think there punk whereas in reality there just rock emo or some other genre the people associated with it are people all over MTV and the Radio but the saddest thing of all is im 13 and there about 18-40 and i have a better understanding of punk than them.
NOTE: these are mainly my opinions on 'pop/punk' you dont have to agree but dont you dare go round saying that the bands bellow are punk oh and i dont think Bands like NOFX Rancid Bad religion are Pop/punk there just toned down punk in my eyes

Pop punk is best described as pure, unadulterated crap. Thats right, nothing good makes its way into this music. You will know that you are listening to pop punk when you have the sudden urge to kill yourself. The bands who play the music usually know 3 chords on their respective instruments, plus someone bangs on a single snare drum. The most common characteristic of a pop punk fan is a large cleft centered on the face, surrounded with short, curly hair and a tiny, sensitive bud located within a few folds of skin, in the upper portion. The color of the hair usually matches the eyebrows. A pop punk fan also has no tolerance for good bands, and will commonly say such uneducated statements like "The Beatles suck, man, put on some Guster, rock on, derrrrrrr". You may substitute "The Beatles" for any classic/90's rock band. To form a band name for your own pop punk band, pick an obscure word out of Webster's, and then follow it with a dash and a random number of 3 digits or less.
St. Peter: Why do you think you deserve to be in heaven son? After all, suicide is a mortal sin.
You: Well, Pete, I accidentally heard a pop punk song...
St. Peter: Say no more, my son. Welcome to heaven, and you won't have to hear that shit here. Would you like your complimentary Led Zep album now, or later?
