This is the worst position someone can be in, if they have feelings for someone. When a person develops romantic feelings for someone, but the other person only sees the relationship as just being friends. Because the two are around each other a lot, the one in love will harbor his/her feelings for the others. Only to become completely comsumed by this person. This leads to the one in love to complain to all his/her friends about the situation, and to become "pussy whipped" by they other.
Tom meets Amy, and falls in love. But Amy does not hold the same feelings. Therefore the two become friends, and thats it. Now Tom, being around Amy and just friends, harbors his romantic feelings for her. He then will become "pussy whipped" by her, and complain to all his friends about his feelings for her. At this point Tom should realize he is in the Friend Zone and move on.

The friend zone is the mythical place where a man is put into despite known/unknown sexual/romantic feelings for a woman. Everybody then thinks of the woman as a bitch or rude, even though she really just doesn't have any romantic/sexual feelings for the man, but thinks he's a great person and wants to be friends with him.
Alex: Oh man, Sheila just friendzoned you so hard! The friend zone sucks! She's such a bitch, any girl would be lucky to have you!
Ted: I know, man. I irrationally hate her now.
~
Sheila: Ted is such a great guy, I'm lucky to be friends with him!
Cassandra: I know! Would you mind setting me up on a date with him?
Sheila: Sure! I think it would be great if he was in a relationship with someone! I would date him myself, but I don't have any romantic or sexual feelings for him. But you would make a great girlfriend!

A realm of darkness and depression between hell and the earth's surface where innocent males are sent to by attractive/nice females when acting friendly as an attempt to build a good relationship with a female to interest them in a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship. This horrible place is to be avoided at all costs and all males are advised not to develop a crush on their close female friends in order to avoid this.
"So has (malename) had any luck with (femalename)?" - Generic person
"Nah, I don't think the poor guy has a chance at this point, he's waited too long and she put him in the friend zone by now." - Generic person's bro/buddy/pal/friend

John: Stacey, will you go out with me?
Stacey: I'm sorry, John, but no.
John: *later to friends* And then she totally friend zoned me, dude! So unfair, I've spent too much time with her doing amazing things for her to not be riding that shit! I'm entitled to bang her, now, but she's being a bitch!
Friend: Dude she didn't friend zone you you're just a douchebag.

The state existing when two heterosexual people of opposite gender are "just friends" with Member A wishing to be "more than just friends", while Member B wishes to remain "just friends." In this situation, the Member A is said to be in the "Friend Zone."
Member A is often the male, but female examples are not unheard of. Male Member A's are often timid and shy, whereas female Member A's are often just ugly.
When neither member of the heterosexual platonic couple wishes to be "more than just friends", the concept of the Friend Zone loses much of it's meaning.

Member A (Male): Hey, I'm gonna always hang around you and complement you in a nonthreatening way and never make a move. You'll eventually love me and let me out of the friend zone. Aaaany day now...
Member A (Female): Hey, can I suck your dick? No? It's because i'm fat and ugly, you say? Oh...
