people in positions of authority both attempt to assert their dominance over the other through the handshaking action.

To grasp someone’s right hand in your right hand, hold it
tight, and to manhandle or to do as you like with it, in an expression of dominance. Usually accompanied by an additional series of touches performed by the left hand - with the left hand joining the adjoined hands, and/or touching the arm or shoulder of the person opposite. It is possibly a mating ritual employed as a diplomatic way to assess to sensual finesse, strength and stamina of a potential
