A phenomenon in competitive online MOBA/team-
based FPS
gaming in which average rank (i.e. Silver/Gold/Plat) have big ambitions to learn the strategies and compositions of high-rank and
pro players, but are in their rank due to not being refined in the fundamental aspects of
the game. This includes:
* Spending hours watching lots of in-depth Jayne videos and concepts, dozens of them, but not enough
time grinding the competitive ladder to apply those concepts
* The
stress and cognitive dissonance of having a lot of lofty goals and academic knowledge, yet not being exceptionally good.
* Trying to adhere to the meta religiously, even though they are nowhere near the skill cap and their inability to climb out of their rank has nothing to do with the meta.
* While there is a genuine attempt to learn about metas in-depth, sufferers of Jayne Syndrome, end up rotely memorizing lots of informations, getting
bit and pieces, glibly forming them together, but with a lack of context.
Gold Player: "You won't ever get
better at
the game if you keep using off-meta characters"
Diamond Player: "Please, get treatment for your Jayne Syndrome"
