Get the bampfy mug.Newfoundland-English verb meaning to honk the horn of a vehicle (cars, trucks, boats, ships) It is onomatopoeic in origin as it imitates lower-pitched sound of the horns of American cars and trucks of the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s as opposed to the higher-pitched ‘beep’ of the European and Japanese imports that began to become more popular following the ‘73 OPEC oil embargo.
