One‑Three Thirds

An escalation of One‑Two Thirds, where three or more people coordinate digitallighting tactics against a single target. The imbalance is even more severe: the target must defend themselves against multiple simultaneous lines of attack, often from different angles (hostility, false concern, pedantic questioning, mockery). The aggressors may take turns posting, ensuring the target’s mentions are constantly flooded, leaving no time to think or respond calmly. One‑Three Thirds is common in larger servers with established cliques, where the group can easily mobilize to “handle” anyone who questions the group’s norms. The effect is overwhelming, designed to produce either a meltdown (which gets reported) or a silent departure (which is framed as admission of guilt).
One‑Three Thirds Example: “When she disagreed with a mod, four of his friends jumped in—each replying to her every message, twisting her words, and reporting her ‘hostility.’ One‑Three Thirds: a mob disguised as a debate.”

One-Two Thirds

A form of digitallighting common on Discord servers and similar platforms, where two or more participants coordinate to target a single person, systematically undermining their credibility, twisting their words, and provoking reactions. The name reflects the imbalance: one victim versus two (or more) aggressors acting as a bloc. The tactic often involves one person playing “reasonable” while another attacks, or alternating who responds to prevent the target from keeping up. The goal is to create the appearance of overwhelming consensus against the target, making them seem irrational or isolated, and to increase the likelihood of a reactive outburst that can be reported as harassment. One‑Two Thirds weaponizes numbers, turning social dynamics into a trap.
One-Two Thirds Example: “In the server, two users tag‑teamed her: one asked ‘innocentquestions, the other called her answers delusional. When she snapped, both reported her. Classic One‑Two Thirds.”

Clarke’s Third Law

Clarke’s Third Law is probably the best known and most widely cited of the three and states that “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” Just as an aside the others are:
1. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
As far as that Malcolm is concerned just about any technology conforms to Clarke’s Third Law.
