Making improvements to a system that don't actually do anyone any good, and can sometimes have negative ramifications

Encoding videos at 300FPS when humans stop noticing the difference after a fraction of that, that is ricing in the pure sense.

Damien Ricing 

To charm the ladies using a combination of three devilish tactics.
1) Light scented candles
2) Arrange cushions or pillows in a circle on your bedroom floor.
3) Play Damien Rice (maybe at a level that will really piss off your gay neighbours).
4) Lie in the middle of cushions and wait for target to arrive.

If this doesn't work nothing will.
