independent

a positive word many people use to describe someone who is self-sufficient and doesn't need others to think or do things for them, but the person is also self-centered and keeps friendliness at an arms length.

Anchorage, Alaska

A metropolis of some 260,000 in Alaska that is a few thousand miles away from any other large city in North America and where half the state lives. Despite its isolation, crime is relatively high, especially in the Mountain View, Muldoon, and Spenard neighborhoods. Winters are cold and dark, but manageable and summers are nice and mild with temperatures rarely going above the high 70's. The middle and upper middle classes live mostly west of Minnesota Drive and south of Dimond Boulevard. There is no interstate highway system in the city except for a few miles of the New Seward Highway, the southern part of Minnesota Drive, and between Northway Mall and the Mat-Su Valley. Almost all of the homes in it like the rest of Alaska are wood frame or other composite. It is the only major city in America that has both downhill and cross country skiing in it.

Alaska Native

An oppressed and favored people in the state of Alaska. Most live in small towns or villages in hovels with no plumbing and honey buckets for toilets and look like they've never been cleaned. They get priority in hiring for many companies for being a shareholder, but in actuality, few actually work and rely on the state for subsidies. Four wheelers and snow machines make up the majority of their transportation in the isolated communities. Most live in places where you cannot get in or out of the town without flying. Most of the older generation are stoic and many of the younger ones act like hoodlums. Alcohol is a deadly poison for many of them that will mess them up for life!

Middle Class

A living standard some 75% of Americans think they’re at, but it’s a relevant term. In terms of income, some are college educated people with professional white-collar jobs that are single that live in simple one bedroom apartments, but many tradesman that barely finished high school that have families live in a comfortable home in the suburbs, but can’t afford much more than a mortgage and enough food to eat. And you have union tradesmen making more money than accountants and engineers, but most of them don’t live at the same level because of their mentality. In reality, the middle class are college-educated, work white-collar occupations above a secretary or bank clerk, but not physicians or attorney’s, live in a tract home in the suburbs, two cars usually at least one an SUV or Minivan, have a pedigree dog, favorite restaurants are Starbucks, Red Robin, or Chili’s, their kids are highly monitored and in at least one extracuricular activity, their church is usually anything but Roman Catholic, Hardshell Baptist, or Pentecostal, and vacations at least once a year, usually places like Disney World. Many living in mountain climates enjoy skiing or snowboarding in their leisure time and coastal climates the beach.
They are a middle class family. He’s a project manager and his wife a school teacher. Their kids all get good grades and enrolled in soccer. Their home is a two story 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath with a playroom and over 3,000 square feet.

Union

One of the most misunderstood people in the working world, from a white-collar workers point of view. Many are mechanics, electricians, and other technicians making $30-$40 an hour for jobs that most non-union employees would otherwise pay only half that much. Many union employers are those that reel you in and just let you go during the probationary period, even if you prove yourself hardworking and competent, but will keep the lazy and incompetent, just because they are friends with management or well-liked. If you have a blue-collar trade or skill, want to make a good wage, just want to put in a good 8 hours work a day, and no intention of trying to climb the corporate ladder, a union job is well-suited for you. And yes, many union workers are lazy shitbags that take numerous breaks and complain about everything, but there are many others that are honest, hardworking, and dedicated to their jobs. The union reps, with the backup of politicians and the mafia, are the ones who keep things going for the common working man. Many Republicans and conservatives dislike unions because they believe good money should be earned though merit and hard work and that anybody that does not have a college degree and works a skilled trade deserves just enough money to keep themselves fed and a roof over their head

Old School

A term used by many young people and liberal older people use to describe people over 50 with a stern or formidable personality that believe in harsh discipline and no coddling thinking that being that way will produce a good citizen and a better person. Many old school men believe in hard work for success, women that are not housewives should work only in occupations such as teaching, secretarial work, or nursing, children need to be put in their place and not part of adult conversation, smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol is okay, but marijuana is horrible, and that making a man out of a young boy is not having a deep conversation followed by hugs or tears.
