Definitions by the sub

whity 

Sometimes spelled whitie, a whity is used in urban areas to describe a white person with no distinct nationality from the suburbs. They usually sport blowout haircuts, and expensive clothing which they wear with little essence of styling other than what they saw on the manicines in Abercombie and Fitch.

They only come to urban parties for two reasons... drugs (usually cocaine or oxycontin) or girls. Because they rarely know anyone else at the party, you'll observe that more often than not they'll mess with the people nobody fucks with, including drug dealers, and the gang banging type.

Some high-class girls came to our party, and naturally, some whity kids followed. Bringing drugs around here is bad enough, but then they started getting in the faces of some pretty dangerous people, and ended up with liquor bottles over their heads.

basketball

A sport invented in Massachusetts, and unlike most other sports, has actually become more masculine over the years, with the introduction of longer shorts.

Basketball went from white people shooting around in thigh-huggers, to black guys slam dunking and laying up in long shorts.

float 

A car in the left lane which is going up to 5 MPH over the posted speed limit on the highway, and has probably started to rack up a car line. Often driven by the elderly, a person on a cell phone, or a soccer mom, floats will rarely switch to the other lane to let traffic pass.

I had a truck on my right and a float infront of me going 65. I was screwed.

lightning rod 

During long road trips, you may come across (or rather, they'll come across you) a lightning rod. It is basically a car which has one goal on the highway... to keep in the triple digits MPH. You'll discover them most likely riding your tail if your in the left lane.

The purpose of a lightning rod is to let them go. Chances are, you aren't obeying the speed limit either and, on a long road trip, you'll want to be pushing around 80. Police fundraisers on the side of the highway will catch this guy first. Lightning rods will eventually leave the highway or disappear into the horizon, and ghost cars might creep up on you.

I followed the lightning rod while maintaining a steady 80 MPH until it eventually disappeared.

car line

A line of automobiles, either on the highway or a large main street, which consists of a long stretch of automobiles which are usually tailgating each other. It is very hard to switch into this lane until you let the car line pass, or you manage to get up in front of the float which is causing it.

My exit on the highway was to the left, but a car line had formed in the left lane. This was going to be tough.

speed team 

Not to be confused with the lightning rod, and usually involving more than one other car, a speed team is a group of drivers who speed on the left lane of the highway during long road trips. Usually hardened road warriors will know that the more cars that are speeding together, the less likely a state police car will pull them over, as long as they are going at a reasonable speed (80 on a 65 posted).

Called a 'team' because, if a slower float is in the left lane, they'll often all pass it on the right together. Speed teammates rarely even know each other, and more often than not the team will eventually break up when one leaves the highway.

I was speed teaming from Boston to Providence and I got there 30 minutes earlier than I expected.

lane shield

On the highway, with more congested (but not traffic jam) hours with lots of cars, a lane shield is the car hovering next to you while you are trying to get into their lane. Sometimes this is even intentional by the driver because they feel you may be trying to cut them off. Usually they will tailgate the vehicle in front of them so that you have to brake hard or speed up infront of them both to get into their lane.

I missed my exit because of that stupid lane shield in the pick up truck.
