Poss. derivation from Fox Mulder's nickname on the X-Files because Mulder embodied an outsider ideal of sorts being cute and smart and totally committed to his world view even when it was constantly under attack by all the "normal" people.

faux-cialist

noun, foe-sha-list: Rich college kid who goes dumpster diving and only wears thrift store clothes because he/she thinks it shows solidarity with poor people. Finances frequent cross-country trips to protests that he/she knows nothing about with Daddy's platinum card. Refers to people who show contempt for this lifestyle as capitalist pigs. Misquotes Marx on a regular basis. Is totally lacking in the ability to see the irony in his/her politics.

I am so sick of the wannabe protester, faux-cialist kids in my anthro class, I could scream.

macgyver

verb, to cobble together a working piece of machinery or electronics from spare parts and duct tape using only your wits, folksy engineering knowledge (garnered from the scouts or your grandpa), and your swiss army knife

derived from the TV show in which the main character, MacGyver, did this every week in order to save the world and get the girl

I dropped by cd player on the concrete and it broke, so I had to macgyver it. It ain't pretty but it works.
