the process of imagining a sound. to audialize the sound and be able to "picture" it.

also known as audiation according to a 1970s theory by Edwin Gordon.

many of the world's greatest composers had an innate ability to picture a sound in their "mind's ear." To audiate that sound. "audialization."

Hissy

used to describe a "noiselike" or almost "hisslike" sound or quality.

that hihat sounds a bit hissy, maybe cut back on the high frequencies a bit.

lead

the name for an element of electronic music. typically also a supersaw.

it is the "lead melody" of an edm track but also it is an instrument. characterized by a high, bright sound with a sharp eq and a high sustain.

bassline

a pattern of notes in a musical composition which support the main melodies and harmonies. often a sawtooth in electronica.

semisecond

half a second, or 500 milliseconds.

one eigth note every semisecond would be the same as a quarter note per second, or 60 beats per minute.

breathy

full of a light tone, used to describe the higher instruments of the orchestra for their light atmosphere and brilliance.

the upper frequencies of the cello are quite breathy.

Rich

a word that can be used to describe the "richness" or "fullness" of the middle notes on a piano.

the cellos and violas created a rich, dark texture.
