PGs

Slang abbreviation of "Poker Gods" (see also Poker-god) often used in poker forums. The Poker Gods are invoked by some players to explain runs of bad cards, bad luck or a bad beat. Unusual (low-probability) poker occurrences are frequently attributed to the behind-the-scenes acts and whims of the PGs.

"How did you do at Bellagio?"

"Fkn PGs were on my case again. Three sets cracked in 40 minutes."

"Maybe you shoulda sacrificed a puppy?"

scoop

A term used in "split-pot" poker games to mean winning both the high and the low pots.

When the four hit the river it made my wheel and I scooped the pot.

bowhead

A female undergraduate student who invariably walks around campus with a large bow in her hair. The species was common in the early 1990s and can still be found in remote parts of the US such as Kansas.

Professor Zepf: "How are the students in your intro class?"

Professor Ashman: "Fifty bowheads and the football team. Again."

spoke

In poker a spoke is the hand A2345 also known as a wheel. Use of the term is gaining popularity particularly in Nevada and Southern California, primarily because it can be conveniently used as a verb, as in the example below.

The donkey in the 4-seat thought he was getting at least half the pot but I spoked him on the river.

permatilt

In poker an extreme form of tilt that can be produced by taking an exceptionally bad beat. The implication is that a player receiving such a bad beat will be so emotionally disturbed that they will play recklessly for the rest of their lives (permanent + tilt). While no unambiguous examples of the phenomenon have ever been reported the term is frequently used to indicate extreme emotional distress at the poker table.

"I get all-in versus this donkey with AA and flop quads. He's playing The Kat and runner-runners his miracle cards to make a straight flush. I've been on permatilt ever since."

Scorpio

A sign of the Zodiac purported to produce the least desirable romantic partners, as exemplified in Robyn Hitchcock's song 'The Devil's Coachman.' From verse 2:

"If he treats you horribly, he's probably a Scorpio"

The term can be applied to men, women, or other.

"Why did you break up with Jill? She's a knock-out?"

"Yeah and she's a Scorpio."

In poker analysis the experience of posting a hand history at an online forum and getting ripped to shreds by a lengthy response by poker theoretician IABoomer.

I posted my bust-out hand from the Stars Sunday million and got seriously boomed on.
