history class

Merely teaches an insanely-boring "set of lies agreed upon", and proffers info that's usually of absolutely no use whatsoever in the later lives or employment-opportunities of the needlessly-suffering students.
About the only times when any of da stuff learned in history class would ever come in handy in one's adult life would be in archaeology work, in trivia shows like "Jeopardy!", or if you were composing "goof" submissions for television/movie content dat involved past events. I mean, was there even ONE SINGLE TIME in your life since class when you hadda know any Revolutionary history, or recall who William Leidesdorff or Amadeo Giannini were in relation to the founding of San Francisco???

hospitalble

Describes welcoming and pleasant-mannered doctors, nurses, and EMT.
I am as appreciative as anyone logically would be for friendly attentive staffpeople in an ER or examination/operating room, but I get a bit concerned and suspicious if said employees seem TOO hospitalble, in that it makes me wonder if they are gonna try to "milk the system" by keeping me there longer than necessary, instead of speedily getting me on the road to recovery and then moving on to other patients.

marshmellow

A more-friendly-and-placid-natured swamp-creature than da typical ones spoken about in cheesy "creature from da black lagoon" type flicks.
Quite a number of supposedly-evil monsters in "swamp-creature" films turn out to be fairly virtuous beasts once all's said and done (i.e., they are not truly evil at heart, and in fact sometimes actually help out humans in distress; they are merely hideous to look at, and thus they are initially feared and misunderstood, and/or evildoers give them a bad name because said morally-deprived individuals don't want the locals to side with the creatures when said creatures try to stop said evildoers from committing crimes), and so maybe these are the "marshmellows" among Earth's primitive "boggy creek" denizens.

Sherlock Ohms

A late-19th-century detective who ferreted out resistance-causing corrosion and other conduction-faults in electrical and telephone/telegraph wiring.
"Sherlock Ohms" can also be used to describe how veteran actor Dennis Hoey pronounces the famous detective's name in the Basil Rathbone series.

second-hand noise

Da deafening roar/scream/whine/hum/banging dat is produced by someone using power tools or heavy machinery, and dat everyone else in his vicinity therefore hasta suffer with, even if said neighbors are not involved with said raucous task in any way.
Delicate-statured damsel: I always carry a set of reusable earplugs in my purse whenever I venture out 'n' about, just in case I have to pass through or occupy any location where there is second-hand noise of excessive volume.

foot-pounds

Refers to how much "downward burden" a pair of shoes is subjected to when worn by different people of varying corpulence.
Sport-shoes with cushioning air-chambers are the easiest type of footwear to retrofit for measuring the foot-pounds that the shoes are loaded with --- just drill and thread a hole in one of the air-chambers, and then install an air-pressure gauge.

ribbons and Bose

A sound-electronics gift for da audiophile on your Christmas list.
Years ago before da recorded-music era, we got our teens things like roller skates and Swiss Army knives as gifts, but now it's completely changed to a world of ribbons and Bose.
