Face down, generally referring to cards in a game of poker. The person holding the cards can see them, but no one else at the table can.

(More cards dealt, Jon gets an ace face up)
Jon: "Woo hoo! 3 aces! Get out of this one."
(Cards dealt out. Nick D raises Jon 50000. Jon calls.)
