Big One One Nine

A nick name used by most residents of Lake County, Indiana and the East-side of Chicago for 119th street in Whiting, IN. Once a major cruising destination, its now fallen on hard times. No longer do truckloads of teenagers sit in their vechiles all night long.

Back in the day, we used to cruise the big one one nine all night in a hemi powered Cobra.

Four Side Park

A nickname for Forsyth Park in the Robertsdale area of Hammond, Indiana. Surprisingly many people in the 46394 zip code are unaware of the real name of Forsyth Park.

When i was a kid we used to play knock-hockey at four side park.

I quit running in four side park after someone in a car threw a beer can at me.

A group of quassi-radicals from 70s who roamed Whiting, Indiana and Rush street in Chicago with the two major goals. The decriminalization of Marijuana and the establishment of four day work weeks.

Five Points

This nickname from at least the 1960's for the intersection of Calumet Ave, Indianapolis Blvd and 114th St in Whiting, Indiana. The reason for the nickname is there are five intersections meeting at that point.

There was another shooting down at the bar by Five Points.

I wrecked the Delta when I spun out and hit the fence down at Five Points.

Automagical

An old mainframe phrase from at least the 80s, meaning when things appear automatically like magic. Typically used with netview and JES2 automatic commands.

I put the start of that batch cobol job in JES2 start commands, that job will start automagically every morning at 2:30.

A sarcastic nickname for Whiting, Indiana. It has to do with the non-stop cruising on 119th Street that was commonplace in the 1970s.

Imam

A prophet or mentor to young males. Typically a male a few years older than the youth he mentors. Usually, he has his own place, a "real job" and a live-in girlfreind.

Kids today have MTV to show them how to be men, all we had was Imam and Buddy.
