I think Elliot should be Allen because Elliot isn't the male form of the name Ellen. Then again, if he is really a man then why does she have to change his name? There are men named Leslie. If she is a man because he says she is then he doesn't have to change her name because whatever his name is would be the name of a man. Not that I'm against changing your name.
