Fornel

A person who is biologically or legally related but is not regarded as part of one's family.

After Lucy cut all contact with her parents, they no longer considered her part of their family. To them, she was a Fornel.

Although Daniel and his sister were biologically related, he no longer regarded her as family after years of conflict. She became a Fornel to him.

A relative whose presence in one's life is negligible or absent, despite the existence of a biological, legal, or marital relationship.

Lucy's father left when she was five and was never part of her upbringing. He was an Awelin in her life.

Ben's grandfather was still alive, but they had only met once in twenty years. His grandfather was an Awelin.

Geneval

A person recognised as a relative through genealogy or legal kinship, with whom one has no established familial relationship.

When Lucy's mother remarried, her new husband's adult children became her stepsiblings legally, but they had never lived together or formed a family bond. They were her Genevals.

Emma discovered through genealogy that she had several half-siblings she had never met. They were Genevals.

Ruptain

A person related by blood, marriage, or adoption with whom one has intentionally and permanently severed all familial ties.

After years of abuse, Lucy permanently cut all contact with her parents. From that day forward, they were her Ruptains.

David removed his brother from his life, blocked all communication, and made it clear they were no longer family. His brother became a Ruptain.

Severon

A person related by blood, marriage, or adoption with whom one has been prevented from maintaining a personal or familial relationship.

Lucy's mother refused to let her father have any contact with her after the divorce. As a result, her father became a Severon in Lucy's life.

James was adopted as a baby and was never allowed contact with his birth siblings. To him, they were Severons.

Carneil

A person related by blood, marriage, or adoption with whom one has no meaningful personal relationship.

Lucy only saw her aunt once every few years and never really knew her. Her aunt was simply a Carneil.

Although Mark and his cousin were biologically related, they had never formed a personal bond. They remained Carneils to one another.
