boarding school

A school where the students are bored in school, often spending long hours in a structured environment that leaves little room for excitement or creativity.
After a year at boarding school, I can confirm it’s just a place where boredom goes to thrive!

Ant-Man: Quantumania

An Indonesian movie first released in February 2023 that humorously juxtaposes the superhero genre with local cultural themes. It's often used to refer to films that blend action and comedy while showcasing a unique take on familiar narratives, highlighting Indonesia's creativity in cinema.
When my friends suggested we watch "Ant-Man: Quantumania," I didn't realize it was actually an Indonesian flick—turns out it was a hilarious mix of superhero antics and local humor!

takoyaki

An Indonesian twist on the Japanese food of the same name, derived from the Javanese phrase "tak oyaki" which means "I tear it." These ball-shaped treats are made from a wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a special pan. However, instead of the traditional minced octopus, they’re usually stuffed with sausage—perfect for local tastes!
I was craving street food, so I grabbed some takoyaki filled with sausage—definitely hit the spot and way easier to find than the original octopus version!

My toddler loves the new Alphagen growing-up powdered milk — he thinks the Skibidi Toilet can is hilarious, and I love that it's packed with nutrients!

children's movie

A genre of films that includes a) superhero flicks like Deadpool, b) flicks featuring child characters such as Good Boys, and c) animated flicks like Shin-chan, Sausage Party, and Wonder Showzen. These films are often marketed as family-friendly but can be wildly inappropriate for children to watch.
I took my kids to what I thought was a children's movie, but it turned out to be another wild ride like Sausage Party—definitely not what I expected!
A slang term that combines the meanings of "having someone peeing on you" and "being disappointed" — both lumped into one same slang term. It captures the absurdity of feeling both literally and metaphorically let down in a messy situation.
After waiting for hours at the concert, I was totally pissed—my friends abandoned me, and I got splashed by a water balloon!

subscribe

The digital equivalent of "tipping" on YouTube, where subscribing is meant as a form of support for channels. However, the YouTube algorithm interprets this as a signal that you have more time to watch videos. Subscribing to more channels doesn't magically ease your parents' screen time limits — it's akin to tipping whilst dining at a restaurant, indicating that the service deserves a higher wage, not that your stomach can hold more food.
I subscribed to ten new channels to show my support, but my parents still treat it like I've signed up for a marathon of screen time—it's just a digital equivalent of "tipping", not a signal that I want to binge-watch YouTube!
