Toxic workplace
A toxic workplace is somewhere you really don’t want to be as, even if you try to avoid it, you will be dragged into the backstabbing shit that’s going on and it will adversely affect you. It’s a place usually characterised by drama and infighting and where the personal battles between individuals or departments harm productivity. Toxic workplaces are often the result of workers who are, themselves, best described as toxic. These individuals are motivated solely by personal interest, the desire for money, power and status. They will use any means no matter how unethical, mean-spirited or illegal to manipulate the system for their own ends whilst undermining others and diverting attention away from their own shortcomings.
Toxic workplaces have been found to have profoundly adverse effects on the health and wellbeing of the non-toxic people working in them. The best advice if you find yourself working in such an environment, no matter how good the money or benefits, get out as quickly as possible.

“Malcolm’s crawling round Mark again trying to undermine Nick.”
“That toe-rag really is poisonous; he’s turning this into a real toxic workplace.”

Socially Concerned
Ostensibly it means caring about society. Being concerned about the things that are wrong with society such as increasing violent crime, an increasingly stressed health service, the marginalisation of the disadvantaged members of society, the list is pretty much endless; those who are truly socially concerned then try to do something about it. Unfortunately as in the case of the chattering classes the socially concerned individuals only pay lip-service to whatever cause is fashionable and they do sfa.
Most so-called socially concerned just talk about the latest fashionable cause, they don’t actually do anything to help.

Workplace Aggression
Logically enough workplace aggression is specifically aggression that occurs in the workplace. It is commonly found within a toxic workplace and can include a variety of unpleasant behaviours. These can range from verbal, (insulting people, spreading rumours, telling lies or maliciously instituting grievance procedures), to physical attacks (pushing, slapping, punching or attacking with a weapon). It’s the sort of behaviour which, if it was carried out on the street would, in many cases result in arrest by the police or prosecution in the Civil Courts.

Workplace
It’s the place where you work, shop, office, farm, building site. Anywhere work is carried out is a workplace.

Politically Active
At its best it means interested in politics and government; trying to make a changes in public policy, laws or the government working to get an official elected, or lobbying to have legislation passed, collecting petition signatures. It can also mean a person trying to change things for their own benefit, to gain status or power in the workplace. It can also mean someone who is a nuisance, constantly wanting to change things and who interferes in matters that are none of their concern. At its worst it means a total fuckwit like Russell Brand a self-styled activist for whom politically active means espousing views that the majority of people find repugnant or ridiculous.

Scran Bag
This can be used in a couple of different ways, but typically refers to someone who is always hungry or extremely greedy and is always eating. The expression originated with the Royal Navy where the slang name for food is scran. It can also be used to refer to a person who is dirty, untidy, unkempt or of unprepossessing appearance, this too originated with the Royal Navy, perhaps because people who were always eating changed shape so that their uniforms did not fit or were so intent on food that they neglected their appearance.
“If eating was an Olympic sport, you’d be a gold medallist you scran bag!”
“Look at that scruffy sod! What a scran bag!”

Unfortunate Acronym
An unfortunate Acronym is an acronym for an organisation or person that results in a word that is rude, disgusting or totally inappropriate. A typical example would be the Country and Urban Nature Trail Society which was intended to promote pleasant nature walks in both the town and countryside. It never got off the ground because the acronym was CUNTS. Another British example is Radical Alternatives to Prison, a bunch of bleeding hearts who want to abolish prisons. They were originally going to be called Completely Radical Alternatives to Prison – CRAP, but decided against this, perhaps it was too close to the truth about their ideas.
One unfortunate acronym which is still currently used is TWAT which stands for The War Against Terrorism, while from the United States comes FLOTUS which identifies the President’s wife and stands for First Lady Of The United States. It’s an unfortunate acronym in that it sounds as if it is something unpleasant lurking in a toilet bowl. I suppose they could try removing some of the unimportant letters, but FLOUS and FLUS don’t sound much better.
