Really nice large village just outside London in the north of Surrey. It's a mile from Epsom and two miles from Cheam, with which it shares the vast and beautiful Nonsuch Park. It is very picturesque with some buildings dating back centuries, lovely old churches and a small village centre park called Bourne Hall park which also features a library and a large and very pretty pond complete with a fountain. Ewell is also home to the excellent Ewell Castle School.
When in Ewell it's pleasant to visit Bourne Hall to get some books from the library and then have a picnic in Bourne Hall Park overlooking the pond.

Get the Ewell mug.Drop-dead gorgeous village that could be a hundred miles from central London, but is actually under ten miles away in the London Borough of Sutton.
Why all this incredible enthusiasm, I hear you say?
For a start, the setting - two lovely ponds at its heart with an Italianate bridge, surrounded by trees such as weeping willows, fine period buildings including a museum and a Grade II listed church. Next a very pretty high street popular with local hipsters for its stylish independent coffee houses, trendy art and gift shops and its small theatre, the Charles Cryer Theatre.
I could go on about its museum, its ecology centre, its conservation areas, the fact that it's home to one of CAMRA's favourite pubs in the whole of Britain and that it's only 25 minutes by Southern Rail from London Victoria train station; but I suggest you just visit it for yourself and have a lovely day out.

Get the MERSTHAM mug.An area of outer south London within the London Borough of Sutton. Sutton Council is renowned for its green credentials, as evidenced by being a partner in the energy efficient housing scheme in Hackbridge known as BedZED (=Beddington Zero Energy Development).
Hackbridge is near to a beautiful and extensive park: Beddington Park contains a Grade I listed manor house, and is very picturesque with the River Wandle (a Thames tributary) flowing through it.
Hackbridge is in travel card zone 4, and just one stop from uber cool Carshalton.
