Very old Brazilian expression, which means "all is (was) lost", with no turning back. Probably from rural origin, just think a farmer trying to rescue a cow from been stuck to death in a swamp.

It's used in situations like "The situation of the company was already bad in the Telecom market, then came the Chinese products and the cow went to the swamp"

To overwhelm to the point of mental breakdown

On her ride home, Mary was cut off by a truck driver. Having had an already bad day, this last incident so flusterpated her that she had to pull over and cry.

shut out

when one team scores five or more points and the other team has none.

only a score of 5-0, 6-0, 7-0 and up is a shut out. scores such as 2-0, 3-0, and 4-0 are not shut outs.

1. n. a sense of dread or extreme discomfort.

2. n. or adj. term used to describe a Jeep manufactored prior to the time that the American Motor Company (AMC) took over production.

1. The sight of blood always gave the squeemish man the willies.

thing in a bag

noun. In the flash animated series of Homestar Runner cartoons, a non-existant wonder that Strong Bad uses by looking into a paper bag. Homestar Runner has hopes that he will someday be allowed to see the Thing In A Bag, and does errands for Strong Bad to curry his favor.

HS: What are you doing?

SB: Hanging out at The Stick, looking at a thing in a bag.

HS: Can I see?

SB: No. It's for me. And The Cheat. And Strong Mad.
