unguent: an odorous semisolid concoction of wax, fat or petroleum jelly (liquefying at body temperature and often containing medication) applied externally as a remedy or for soothing an irritation.

After he pulled his damp birches from his sweaty (__X__) he spread an unguent to soothe the chafing. Aahh!

Door to door sales of the unguent advertised in the back of "BoysLife" proved dismal; the young sales lad said, "It doesn't sell like 'hotcakes' at all; it sells like mud!'
