Just a simple and lazy form of the very popular phrase "social media". We do not have enough time to say all five syllables, just say "soshmeed".

SoshMed

Social media. The term 'social media' has too many syllables and was necessarily shortened to 'SoshMed'. 'SoMed' is an alternate pronunciation, but rarely used because the "SH" consonant blend in SoshMed is much more fun to say.

A: So, my friend Rachel works at the hospital.
B: Is she on SoshMed?
A: nnNooooo
B: really?
