When one becomes a captive to their notifications, to the point where the parameters of one's life are largely dictated by the sounds emanating from their smart device. Captivity may be obvious and overt but more often is like an animal raised in a zoo - recognisable to the outside observer but not by the captive themselves.

Ollie: Hey did you not see my message?
Teddy: No I didn't as I was doing something intentional which was not, at the time, intentionally checking messages
Ollie: Dude what are you talking about?
Teddy: I'm talking about not being a notificaptive like you are
