nigrosin

Nigrosin is a mixture of synthetic black dyes (CI 50415, Solvent black 5) made by heating a mixture of nitrobenzene, aniline and aniline hydrochloride in the presence of a copper or iron catalyst. It is used in microbiology.
Nigrosin was so named because of its intense black colour, which is useful for the negative staining of bacteria.
Sorry to dissapoint, but this is not a racist word, and has nothing to do with niggers. Look it up on wikipedia.
<Tyrone recently joined a microbiology lab as an lab-assistant>
Scientist: Tyrone, please pass me the nigrosin.
Tyrone: What you be calling me, you honky ass cracka?! I'll have Al Sharpton and the NAACP come down here and sue your ass!
Scientist: No Tyrone. Nigrosin is a dye used for the negative staining of bacteria.
Tyrone: Oh. My bad.
