A maharashtrian is a resident of the Indian state of Maharashtra. The original maharashtrians speak Marathi. They have a great history and culture. They are excellent in all fields especially art, music and literature. They take great pride in their history and are people of high moral character. The new generation of maharashtrians are quite intelligent as well with many maharashtrians now occupying high posts in many various fields of science, technology, cinema etc.

Mumbai is capital of Maharashtra ,and financial capital of India, where transactions worth billion dollars take place daily.Pune is cultural capital, also famous for its education,people from almost all parts of India, and even overseas student come to study at Pune University.


people of maharashtra are called maharashtrians, not to be confused with marathi people, who are a ethnic indo aryan group.

the word "marathi" comes from word "maharathi" which means great charriot rider.


Maharashtrains are supposedly of Shaka decent and they also follow the Shaka calender.
