kollegiophobia

Kollegiophobia is a specific phobia brought about by the irrational fear of college, university, and/or other pursuit of further education after high school.

Kollegiophobics tend to feel uneasy in many situations involving college. Situations where the topic of further education is brought up will cause them to have a fight or flight or freeze response.

Kollegiophobia may be brought on by the recent cultural phenomenon of expecting people to attend college after high school, commonly known in middle-class societies among developed nations of the 21st century.

A person suffering from kollegiophobia may believe themselves to be a bad student or aren't fit to learn in an academic setting. This in turn with the common saying that one must get a college degree to succeed in life may make them feel pressured. It is important to note that kollegiophobics are not necessarily suffering from a lack of intellect. On the contrary, they may be a person of high IQ and/or perceived to have a charismatic personality.

A person who has kollegiophobia may not know that they have it. Functional kollegiophobics may appear to be perfectly fine individuals of society who happen to have lower-end or certain blue-collar jobs that tend to not involve formal education to be proficient.

A more recent cultural phenomenon of denying the perceived usefulness of college degrees along with the common stories of people drowned in student loans could further exaggerate the issue.
Yeah, I also probably would've had a Ph.D. if it wasn't for my kollegiophobia.
