A person, especially a child, whom only one of his/her parents is around/alive.

Jame's father passed away a few days ago. People is starting to call him half-orphan.

The condition of having only 1 living parent.
Sometimes shortened to harphan.

Me: Ever since my dad died I've been a harphan.
Girlfriend: That's really sad to hear. It must be really tough being a half orphan
