gap room

A room (usually underground) between two buildings that exists for the purpose of running power, water, steam, telecoms, trains, or other services between buildings or locations. Not specifically a part of one of the buildings or the other. This room may also serve the purpose of smoothing out the geometry differences between two buildings.

They found the fugitive hiding out in the gap room between the bank and the grocery store.
