doing the Niklas

When an individual initially gives their assent, only to realize—upon subsequent inquiry—that the commitments already inscribed in their schedule render further engagement untenable.
Jan: Might you, by any chance, be so gracious as to escort the Honorable Senator Korn to the stadium on Friday evening?
Niklas: Alas, I must beg your pardon. Monday evening is irrevocably devoted to CrossFit; Tuesday and Wednesday find me engaged in a scientific conference of considerable importance in Meppen. Thursday is reserved for pole dancing in the distinguished company of my CrossFit peers, and on Friday I have resolved—after careful deliberation—to remain in Hamburg instead.
Jan: Are you, once again, performing what is commonly known as “doing the Niklas”?
