Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

1) A family of respiratory viruses, ranging from the common cold to SARS and MERS.
2) A novel virus that has originated in Wuhan, China and has since spread worldwide. You can be infected and spread the virus while no symptoms show, and the virus spreads 10 times more than the flu. A vaccine is expected in 12-18 months at best. Many people are panicking about the virus and stocking up on common items, such as toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues, which really stinks because some people really need them, like sick people. Considering the virus is new in humans, not much is known about it. The WHO and CDC are providing updates, go check their websites to learn more.

Person 2: Yeah, it’s kind of scary! I hope nobody in our community gets it!
Person 3: If somebody does, our school will close!
Person 1 and 2: That’s still not good.
