Differences may not be seen in two things until they are compared side by side, then the similarities or differences are apparent.
I always though Jim and Eddy looked the same, but comparently they are different.

Noun. A parent who compares their child to other children often is a non positive way. Comparing a child to another child in the hopes that child will act similarly to the child they are compared to.
