This in fact is not a spoken word so much as a sound. It is the same sound made when someone is sniffing their nose as they are crying or trying to stop crying. The recovery sniffs is the sound you are mocking.
It is a sarcastic way to show someone you feel no pity for their situation.
Just like playing the tiny violin for a person, this mocks the persons sadness by "crying" along with them. See example
Bjorn: Yesterday, my girlfriend told me that my clothing is out of style and it really hurt my feelings.
Bennett: (very sarcastic)"Sniff-Sniff".... "Sniff- Sniff" oooh "sniff-sniff"...that's just terrible
A play on the phrase "Scratch and Sniff" Smelling your own fart by cupping the air around your butt with your hand, after farting, and bringing it to your nose.
I hope my farts don't smell too bad ... I'm going to have to "Catch and Sniff", to make sure, because I have a hot date tonight.
When a male rubs his hand along his scrotum, and then proceeds smells his hand--now scented with his ball musk--, he has just performed a Sack Sniff. Often performed, but rarely acknowledged in polite society, the Sack Sniff is an interesting cultural sensation that begs for an evolutionary-psychological explanation. The male executing the Sack Sniff will often report enjoying the scent, or at least conceding that he finds himself executing the Sack Sniff frequently. Perhaps he is checking levels of pheromones in his system as a form of virility/fertility auto-monitoring behavior.
Male 1: Did you really just wipe your balls with your hand and then smell it?
When you greet someone and go in for the hug, then do some rapid but heavy sniffing to establish the persons’ scent, or possibly get a sense of where they have been or who they have been with. Most often used on significant other or potential significant other.
My man came around looking all sheepish, I gave him The RoyalSniff and he smelled like that HO from the mall.
A meaningless, unimpressive, self-serving introduction. An indicator that the story about to be shared will be pointless and dumb.
Back when I lived in upstate new york, I also had to park on the street - on two occasions, we got enough snow, mixed with just the right plowing, that my car was lifted off the ground from so much snow being jammed underneath it.
Sister: This meeting was to discuss the rough draft of my essay, where we discussed the subsidiary questions I added in my rough draft. We also discussed the relationship between my main title and the real-life situations I chose to use in my essay. We discussed the structure of my essay as well, specifically the Math AOK section and how it relates to the contradiction of the title. This second meeting was particularly helpful in discussing the implications of my essay claims and how to apply the title across various areas of knowledge. There were many sections of the essay that could have been cut down in wordiness and the ways of knowing required further and more in-depth analysis.
