Used a lot in Thailand, especially in an attempts to sell something but can mean just about anything depending on what the user is trying to achieve.

Q "Is this a real rolex?"
A " Yes Sir, same same but different"

Also used to describe subtle nuances.

Same-Same-But-Different Singapore Math

When the methodology and pedagogy used in Singapore math textbooks and supplementary titles (foreign and local editions) at the same grade are believed or perceived to be equivalent, yet the level of difficulty of the brain-unfriendly questions in both editions differs significantly—the tailor-made overseas editions are often one or two grades lower than the local one.

US math educators need to take note of the same-same-but-different Singapore math titles to temper their expectations of their students’ mathematical proficiency compared to that of their Singaporean counterparts.

A term used to describe when someone is further ahead than another in a given situation, while still implying the other person will reach that point in the situation eventually.

1: "I love you."
2: "We're on the same book, but different chapters."

when you know that everything is good with someone/something, but there is still this thing!
said when you are in a situation where you know that something is missing or wrong, but cant quite point out what it is.

John: she said that she knew she loves me, but that there was something missing.
Chris: dude, apparently you guys are "on the same page, but in different books!"
