The status a relationship is in when one of the participants wants to fuck someone else but would like to keep the option of reconciliation open.

On a Break Baby – Is when someone, usually a man, has a child while “on a break” from a serious relationship. (i.e. long-time girlfriend or fiancé). When news of the love child with the “side piece” or “jump-off” is revealed, the man’s only option is to confess to fathering a child while “on a break” of the relationship.”

Ex. Did you hear that Joe and Lisa are engaged and expecting a baby?
That’s great news! I didn’t know Lisa was pregnant.
She’s not. Joe had an “on break baby” when he and Lisa were broken up.

I'm Going on Break

Said after solving a taxing problem or difficult issue at work, 'cause after that you definitely deserve a break. Or even better if it wasn't so difficult or taxing, 'cause hell yeah you're going on break anyway!

I want to get a job as someone who names kitchen appliances. Toaster, refrigerator, blender....all you do is say what the shit does, and add "er". I wanna work for the Kitchen Appliance Naming Institute. Hey, what does that do? It keeps shit fresh. Well that's a fresher....I'm going on break.

something Ross on Friends says too much. Rachel said, let's take a break, so Ross boinked Chole, the punk girl from the copy center. He and Rachel immediately made-up, but when she found out about the boinking, she was pissed.

Ross spent the next four years or so saying, "WE WERE ON A BREAK!"

She wants me to take responsibility for everything that went wrong in our relationship. I mean she goes on for five pages about, about how I was unfaithful to her! "Well...WE WERE ON A BREAK!"

When a person tells their significant other that they need time apart for one reason or another. It happens when a relationship just isn't working out but you are afraid to actually break up so instead you take a break which usually ends in a break up anyways. In some situations it is allowed to see other people but for some it is not so make sure you have a talk about what is allowed and what isn't because you don't want to end up like Ross from "Friends" and cheat on Rachel when he didn't know it was cheating and be forced to read an 18 page letter front and back; causing you to fall asleep and Rachel get pissed that you didn't read all of it. It is the most deceptive term ever!!!

Usually it is the woman's idea to take a break but in my case it was my boyfriend's idea because he felt bad about not having any time to hang out with me... Idk

What do you call this person, are they still your bf or gf???
Do you still talk to them?
Are you now just friends???"

"On a Break"

What happens to some couples when one person feels like they don't want to be with the other person. It can be for many reasons and most often it occus when one person is feeling confused or stressed. They displace these feelings to their signifigant other.
It can also be used as a way of basically breaking up with someone to explore other 'opportunities' but at the same time, can always fall back onto the other person if you don't find anything better out there.

A dude feels like he's gonna be tied down forever to one girl, and decides that he needs to check out the scene a little more before deciding to bang the same chich for the rest of his life. He tells the girl they are "on a break". If he finds someone hotter, he leaves the chick, and if not, he goes back to the girl. Chicks use this method just as often as dudes.
