Neuroscientific Supremacism
The belief that neuroscience holds a unique, unquestionable authority over all other ways of understanding human thought, behavior, and experience—and that any insight from psychology, sociology, philosophy, or the humanities must ultimately reduce to brain activity or be dismissed. Neuroscientific supremacism treats fMRI scans and neural correlates as the “real” explanation, while subjective reports, cultural context, and historical analysis are seen as superficial or irrelevant. It often dismisses critique as “anti‑science” and positions neuroscientists as the ultimate arbiters of human nature.
Example: “He claimed that love was ‘just dopamine’ and that any discussion of its meaning was unscientific. Neuroscientific supremacism: reducing everything to brain chemistry while ignoring the richness of lived experience.”
