With today's sky-high cost of living, and fathers not always being in the picture, many single mothers are forming "mommunes" with each other as an alternative to both the nuclear family and lone motherhood.

When referring to your mom and her group of friends or family members, being to lazy to name names. Usually used in the southern parts of the states. (But can be heard just about anywhere)

A lifestyle where your actions and decisions at home are controlled almost completely by your mother, or otherwise female guardian. This applies more to teens, as this is normal for children.
