Iyenprov (noun)

A TTRPG behavioral pattern and social dynamic wherein a dominant participant exerts hegemonic control over a collaborative narrative, deliberately inducing cognitive dissonance and psychological reactance in other participants.

Unlike traditional railroading—which is often systemic, accidental, or masked as structural necessity—this phenomenon is uniquely distinguished by four core criteria:

- Asymmetric Application: It can be executed with absolute authority by a Game Master (via direct narrative override) or fractionally by a player (via the strategic exploitation of metagaming rules and social contracts).

- Paradoxical Self-Acknowledgement: The asserting party explicitly identifies and openly comments on their own overriding behavior in real-time.

- Calculated Inflexibility: Despite this conscious self-awareness, the asserting party offers zero structural flexibility or narrative concession to remedy the loss of agency experienced by the other participants.

- Reflexive Escalation: Refusal to swiftly comply with the dominant participant's narrative mesh and/or ignore the cognitive dissonance typically results in a sudden escalation of punishing or aggressive behavior towards the other participants.

Origin: Popularized by celebrity TTRPG player and GM Aabria Iyengar, whose performances overtly blends meta-aware commentary with rigid narrative enforcement.

An archetypal example of Iyenprov can be found in Critical Role C3E93 at around 20:00:

**In this scene The Spider Queen is ordering her champion Opal to kill her friends/fellow players**

Aabria Iyengar (As The Spider Queen): "I'M NOT NEGOTIATING, GET TO WORK!-"

Aimee Carrero (As Opal): "-One more thing. Uhm, just one more thing-"

Aabria Iyengar (as GM): "-It is so funny that I wanted to transition out of it, but you said it so <<casually>>, I have to honor that-great! Worst champion ever!"

Aimee Carrero (As Opal): "Why do you need them to die?"

Aabria Iyengar (As The Spider Queen): "Because they won't leave you-and if you can't see it, maybe you're not smart enough to be my champion. How do I know that truth about your friends better than you do? You chose my crown, you took this power"

Aimee Carrero (As Opal): "Well, you kinda pressured me into it-but I understand, okay"

Aabria Iyengar (As The Spider Queen): "You get one more, or my price goes up"

flophouse

Any house/apartment/frat house/trailer/etc. which is used for individuals to crash (sleep, chill, hang out, lurk, etc.) for a period of time. In order to "crash", one must not actually live there (e.g. have their name on the lease, own said flophouse, etc.). Flophouses are typically used by college students, drug addicts, transients, vagrants, or other unsavory characters.

A flophouse may also be the home owned by the parents of a college student, who after being away at college, wishes to live as if he/she is still at college (e.g. staying out all night, returning just to crash at mom and dad's house, then leaving again), rather than conforming to the pre-college rules.
Example #1
Dude: (Talking to someone passed out face first on the floor of his college apartment) Hey man, who the hell are you? What do you think this is, a flophouse??

Bro: Sorry dude, I must have passed out for a minute.

Example #2
Mom: Where have you BEEN for the last three days? You come home just to sleep?? What do you think this is, a flophouse??!!

Son: What's your problem? I'm an adult now!

A toe rag was originally a foot wrapping used, since mediaeval times up until the mid-nineteenth century, to protect the foot from chafing by boots or shoes. As these were, quite literally, rags they weren’t usually washed, and so with use they became very smelly until they were thrown away. Because of the similarity in smell, toe rag also became the name applied to dried, salted cod or other things with a strong, unpleasant, fishy smell. It didn’t take that long before the name was applied to someone who was an obnoxious, unpleasant OIC.
1 “Socks! Those aren’t socks you smelly git, they’re toe rags!”
2 “What have you been cooking? Smells like toe rag!”
3 “I can smell ‘er fanny from ‘ere, proper toe rag.”
4 That Heale Malcolm is a right toe rag.
