Cookin' the peanuts out of us
When someone in charge pushes a person or team so hard, for so long, that the pressure stops working and starts wrecking the thing it was supposed to produce. Named for what happens when you overcook peanuts: apply too much heat for too long and the shells crack open and the nuts fall out. The shell is the person's role. The nut is the person. Past a certain point, everyone's still showing up but there's nothing left inside, and the results get worse, not better.
Not the same as just being tired or stressed. It's specifically when the pressure has become self-defeating.
